Some discoveries are more worthwhile than others. While my exploration of the internet trying to find new music may not play a big part in the grand scheme of things I'm still going to share with you a couple of bands I ran into today as the earth has already been mapped out sufficiently.
First up is the self titled album by What's He Building In There?, it's an experimental/progressive metal album that I can imagine would appeal to fans of bands who appeal to fans of Between The Buried and Me because frankly, I'm tired of saying that bands appeal to fans of BTBAM. I guess a more accurate thing to say is that if you're interested in modern prog metal (not djent), are open to genre melding and enjoy experimentation you should definitely give them a chance. WHBIT have an almost alt-rock sound at times and overall have more of a playful vibe than many of their peers. This isn't a bad thing by any means, it gives them a different feel which is important. The music is exciting and experimental and the clean vocals remind me heavily of something that I can't quite put my finger on. I don't have a lot more to say after only one listen so I'll just leave the Bandcamp player below so you can make up your own mind. It's very cool and well worth checking out.
Unfortunately WHBIT? have broken up but at least they left us with a great debut album. Next up is a band with a name that references my dream job when I was 5 years old...
Ninjaspy play a really entertaining hybrid of metal, hardcore and ska and while I realize that ska isn't exactly the most loved genre out there I really have to give this album a glowing recommendation, it's just so damn fun without falling into the trap of being nothing more than a joke. Listen to it and do your favorite 90's teen movie dance because we all know that's where ska hit it's peak when it comes to popularity.
Ninjaspy have also released an EP which is kinda strangely arranged for Bandcamp as it doesn't really flow correctly there but they've released a video for the entire EP so check it out.
Apparently there's a new album in the works too so I'll keep you posted regarding developments there and you can of course follow the band on Facebook as well.
A blog mostly about music but also films and video games. No genre of music is out of bounds but underground, experimental and progressive music has been the focus so far.
