I'm not even going to lie, Sikth coming back together is reason enough for me to buy a plane ticket, I was planning to go to the UK later this year to see their headlining tour but when they were announced as headliners the Tech Fest was clearly superior (see reason 2) as well as being better timed for me at least.
Reason number 2: The rest of the bands
There are a LOT of bands in the line up I already loved and wanted to see (this is usually where I'd list them but I can't be bothered too, I'll write about most of the bands when I get back anyway) but when I started checking the ones I didn't already know out I was blown away by the overall quality of each band. Sure, of course there were bands whose music I enjoyed more or less than others but not once did I hear a band and think something really negative about it, which might cause problems when I need to find time to eat. As someone who annually looks at festival line-ups only to see a handful of bands I really want to see being overwhelmed by cock rock and old-school death metal this surprised me and made me incredibly happy.
Reason number 3: Communicating with fans and musicians alike
Tech fest is not Roskilde, it's not Download and it's not Wacken. This is only its third year and as it's a niche festival it draws a smaller but more dedicated crowd. This sounds like the perfect atmosphere to get to know like-minded people and spend a weekend with them listening to amazing music.
Reason number 4: Merch
I love band t-shirts and hoodies (zip-up please), simple as that.
Reason number 5: After-parties
Those who know me in real life might be surprised by this as I'm not a huge party animal but these are no ordinary parties. System of a Down cover band, Tech metal karaoke, jam sessions and live music. These are after-parties planned by musicians and music lovers for musicians and music lovers.
Reason number 6: Sikth
Seriously though, Sikth are playing!
